EV Block DC Fast Charger Installation

The DC Foundation shares the same excavate-place-backfill installation core as the EV Block L2 family, delivering a fast, weather-independent process for high-power DC fast charging deployments. The charger-specific stainless match plate then mounts to pre-positioned embedded anchors in the foundation — no on-site concrete, no curing time, no delays.

Step 1 — Prepare and Excavate Area

  1. Mark the installation location for the DC Foundation (survey as required).
  2. Excavate to the lines and grades shown on the construction drawings. Excavation may be completed using auger drilling or typical open-cut excavation. Care should be taken to minimize over-excavation (unless required) or disturbance of the surrounding soils. Excavation limits should extend a minimum of 6 to 12 inches (150mm to 300mm) beyond the edges of the DC Foundation unit.

Step 2 — Place DC Foundation and Install Conduit

  1. Lift and lower the DC Foundation into the excavated hole using suitably rated lifting equipment per the project lifting plan. Refer to the DC Foundation Installation Guide for specific lifting hardware requirements and procedures.
  2. Ensure the side openings are properly aligned for the site conduit routing requirements as the unit is lowered into position.
  3. Once in place, confirm the unit is level in both directions and that the upper surface elevation is set to project requirements within ±1/2 inch (12mm).
  4. Brace the DC Foundation as required to maintain position and level until backfill is complete.
  5. Once all conduit is installed through the side openings, backfill the DC Foundation using crushed stone or granular backfill placed in maximum 6-inch (15cm) lifts. If granular backfill is used, compact to 95% Standard Proctor density per ASTM D698. Place backfill to the elevation shown in the project plans, accounting for any paving or surface material to be installed.

Step 3.1 — Passive Installation (Cover Plate)

If the charger has not yet been specified or procurement is not finalized, the DC Foundation can be installed in a passive state using the optional SMC cover plate (ANSI Tier 15 rated).

  1. Secure the cover plate to the top of the DC Foundation using the supplied 1/2″-13 × 3″ tamper-resistant button head stainless steel bolts and 1/2″ stainless steel washers into the embedded anchor inserts.
  2. The site is ready for paving or surface finishing. The cover plate provides a traffic-rated surface until the charger is ready to install.

When ready to proceed with active installation, remove the cover plate bolts, lift off the cover plate, and follow Step 3.2.

Step 3.2 — Active Installation (Match Plate and Charger)

  1. Position the custom stainless match plate over the DC Foundation, aligning the match plate holes with the embedded anchor inserts on the top surface of the unit.
  2. Secure the match plate using the supplied 1/2″-13 × 2.5″ stainless steel flat head bolts. Torque fasteners per the project specifications or the DC Foundation Installation Guide.
  3. Lower the DC charger into position onto the match plate per the charger manufacturer’s installation instructions. Depending on the charger model, there may be studs on the match plate to lower the unit onto, or tapped holes to align with the charger base.
  4. For alignment, short threaded guide rods may be temporarily inserted into two of the anchor positions to guide the charger into position. Remove these once the remaining fasteners are inserted and secured.
  5. Complete all required cabling and wiring per the charger manufacturer’s instructions. Cable routing access is provided through the large side openings and internal conduit core.
